Adrian Humiliated Me in Front of Millions and Announced His Marriage to Someone Else, but His Smile Disappeared When He Read My Last Message

Four minutes after Adrian Valdés’s wedding announcement, a message about my death silenced the entire hall.

In Madrid’s large concert hall, forty thousand phones lit up at the same time. Adrian stood on the stage, soaked in sweat, surrounded by white roses, and held Eva’s hand as if he had been waiting for this exact moment all his life.

“We will get married on the first of January!” he shouted.

The crowd shouted his name. And at that time I was lying in a small hospital room, barely finding the strength to breathe.

My scheduled message flashed across the screens at that exact moment: “Actress Alba Serrano has died at the age of twenty-six after a long illness.”

Lucía stood beside my bed. She held a phone in one hand and my scratched music box in the other—the one Adrian had given me six years earlier. When you opened the lid, it played a childhood melody very slowly. Now the sound came out as if it were jammed.

“Are you sure you want to do this?” Lucía asked me.

“It has already been done.”

“Alba, this will no longer be only a message. He will think you deceived him.”

“He already thinks I deceived him.”

Three months earlier, Adrian and I had publicly broken up. In one sentence. “We are no longer right for each other. Please respect our private lives.”

The next day, photos spread on the internet in which I was leaving a hotel together with Marcos Leyva. I did not tell anyone that Marcos came to the same clinic where I was receiving treatment, and that on that day he had to pick up my documents.

A journalist asked me:

“Has Adrian been replaced by a more famous and younger man?”

I smiled.

“Everyone has the right to look for a better life.”

Adrian’s fans turned this phrase into evidence of guilt. Every day they sent me photos of my funeral, fake cemeteries, and the hospital address.

“Let’s go to the police,” Lucía told me one evening, when we were sitting beside the curtain-covered window whose glass was scratched.

“No.”

“They are threatening you.”

“In a few weeks they will no longer be able to write to me.”

Lucía fell silent. On the table lay my will, the property-sale agreement, and the documents for the oncology foundation. I had fought stomach cancer for three years. After the first operation, everyone thought I would win. Then the disease returned, and the doctor pronounced the word “treatment” as if he were already apologizing.

!!!  After My Son’s Fight at School, I Saw the Other Boy, and His Guardian Looked at Me, Stopped at the Door

Adrian knew nothing.

I hid it myself.

“Call him,” Lucía told me. “He has the right to say goodbye.”

Snow was falling outside the window. My fingers moved over the scratched lid of the music box.

“If I reveal it, he will wait for my death. And I do not want him to live my last months in fear of it.”

That night Adrian put an engagement ring on Eva’s finger. I watched the news live until nausea made me drop the phone from my hand.

Lucía turned off the screen.

“At least leave him a final letter.”

“I left one.”

“Where is it?”

I looked at the wooden box hidden under the bed. Inside lay one envelope, one small key, and the ring Adrian had given me on the day we wrote our first song.

“He will find out after my death,” I said.

At that very moment someone knocked hard on the door. Lucía jumped up. A man’s voice came from outside:

“Alba Serrano? I am a lawyer. I have an urgent document for you.”

Lucía looked toward me, opened the box, and reached for the envelope…

I stopped her myself.

“Do not open it yet.”

Lucía looked at the door handle.

“What if he is Adrian’s lawyer?”

“Then let him know that I am still alive.”

We opened the door. Daniel Ortega, Adrian’s lawyer, stood on the threshold. He held a black folder in his hand, and his face had the expression of someone who already knew bad news.

“Mr. Valdés asked me to speak with you on his behalf,” he said.

“Did you bring a wedding invitation?” I asked.

Daniel looked away.

“He has decided to publicly demand an explanation from you.”

“It is too late.”

“Perhaps not. The message published at his concert this evening changed everything.”

Lucía struck the folder with her hand.

“Get out of here.”

Daniel took a small card from his pocket.

“Adrian made me write this. If Alba is alive, he wants to meet her personally. If not, I must open this document before witnesses.”

A strange coldness spread through my heart. I knew Adrian had prepared something, but I could not understand why he was waiting for my death.

“Tell me what it says.”

“I will do that only if you sign this folder.”

Lucía grabbed my arm.

“Do not sign.”

Inside the folder were an agreement, photographs, and one video recording. Daniel put the phone on the table.

“Adrian saw this recording for the first time today,” he said. “And after that he decided to come to you.”

!!!  They left the children on the floor, but the unknown millionaire did not hang up the call — my former boss suddenly turned pale

My house appeared on the screen. The camera was directed toward the door. The timestamp showed a night from three months earlier. Then a familiar figure appeared at the door.

Adrian turned his head toward me.

“That is not me,” he said quietly.

In the video, someone slid an envelope under the door. When Lucía enlarged the image, a word caught in my throat.

Only one name was written on the envelope: Eva…

Eva.

Her name was visible on the screen so clearly that it was as if someone in the room had pronounced it aloud.

“Stop it,” I told Daniel.

He paused the video. Eva’s hand was visible in the frame. A new engagement ring was on her finger, and on her wrist was the silver bracelet I had given her for her birthday.

“Where was this recording made?” Lucía asked.

“In the entrance hall of your house,” Daniel answered. “Adrian installed the cameras after the threatening letters began. He discovered the recording this morning.”

“And why did you not show it to me earlier?”

“Because Mr. Valdés thought you were trying to return to him and preparing evidence against Eva.”

I laughed bitterly.

“Does he still think I did all this because of him?”

Daniel opened the folder.

“Not anymore.”

Inside were messages between Eva and my former producer, Raúl Mendoza. The messages were dated the day Adrian and I broke up. Eva asked how the photos from the hotel should be distributed, and Raúl’s answer was: “Alba will keep quiet. She cannot bear noise.”

Lucía’s face tightened.

“Did they know about her illness?”

“Raúl knew,” Daniel said. “Eva apparently did too.”

But I was looking at only one thing: the message Adrian had received from Eva. “If you do not announce the wedding now, Alba will pull you back into her game.”

A heavy silence descended over the room.

“Where is Adrian?” I asked.

“He is waiting for you in front of the clinic.”

“Do not let him in here.”

“He is already inside,” Lucía said.

His footsteps sounded beyond the door. A few seconds later Adrian appeared on the threshold. His wet hair clung to his forehead, and something resembling a small wooden music box protruded from his coat pocket.

First he looked at me, then at the documents standing beside the bed.

“Why did you not tell me?” he asked.

“Which part?”

“The illness. The death. Everything.”

“Because I did not want my funeral in your life.”

Adrian took one step forward.

!!!  Me acusaron de entrar en la mansión del jefe, pero cuando leyó la tarjeta frente a todos, su mano empezó a temblar

“I was not your enemy.”

“No. But on the day you said in front of millions that Eva was the woman who deserved to remain beside you, you announced my sentence.”

For the first time I saw not anger in his eyes, but fear.

“I thought you had betrayed me with Marcos.”

“You believed what hurt you the most.”

Daniel took out the small envelope placed at the end of the folder.

“Alba, you must know this now. The doctor confirmed that your condition will enter a critical phase in a few days. Your will will take effect, but this envelope says who will receive your personal belongings.”

I nodded.

“Open it.”

Daniel broke the seal. Inside was one sentence: “The following are to be given to Adrian Valdés: my music box, my letters, and the ring that he once returned to me.”

Adrian looked at the object and his face changed.

“I never returned that ring.”

“I know.”

Lucía looked at the phone. An unknown number was glowing on the screen.

Daniel answered. He listened for several seconds, then lost his color.

“They are calling from the police,” he said. “They found Eva’s car behind the hospital. Your box is in the trunk, Alba. And there are traces of blood on it…”
