My Family Accused Me of Ruining Their Charity Evening, but My Father’s Face Changed at the Admiral’s Question

My father’s hand was still in the air when his son deliberately hit my shoulder and pinned me against the wall.

The metal door handle dug into my back. Under the collar of my uniform, an old scar burned, as if the fire of the Pacific Ocean were passing over my neck again.

“Don’t touch me again, Brandon,” I said quietly.

“Or what will you do? Your ships don’t sail here,” he sneered.

Diana looked around. In the light of the silver candles, the guests slowly turned toward us.

“Olivia, please, don’t make this harder,” she told me through clenched teeth. “You have already created enough problems.”

“I did not come here to defend the family name.”

“That is exactly why you should not have come,” my father intervened. “You always manage to make others uncomfortable.”

I put my hand into my pocket and checked the small copper compass. There was a crack on its glass surface that looked like lightning in the middle. I found this object when I brought three sailors out of the lower deck of a burning ship. Since then, I had always carried it with me.

The cold edge of the compass touched my fingers, and I regulated my breathing. I had not come to fight.

I had come with orders.

“Commander Hayes,” came a voice from the direction of the hall, “please come inside.”

Captain Lewis stood at the door, but beside him stood four-star Admiral Rebecca Morgan. The guests’ whispering immediately stopped. The admiral wore a black evening uniform, and the medals on her chest reflected the light.

My father took one step back.

“Admiral, this is a family matter,” he said.

“No, Charles,” Morgan replied. “This is a matter of national security.”

The smile disappeared from Brandon’s face.

The admiral first looked at me, then looked over the hall.

“Where is Commander Hayes?”

I was standing in front of her, but she asked as if she were looking for someone in the hall.

!!!  They Mocked Me for Coming Alone to My Family’s Wedding, but When My Father Threw Me into the Fountain, His Smile Suddenly Disappeared

“That’s me, Admiral,” I said.

Morgan nodded to me.

“Then it is time for everyone to learn why I summoned you.”

The glass trembled in Diana’s hand. My father narrowed his eyes.

“You will not dare do this here,” he said.

“On the contrary,” the admiral replied. “It is precisely here that it is necessary.”

Captain Lewis extended a thick dark folder toward me. A wax seal lay on its surface.

“Open it, Commander,” the admiral said.

My fingers approached the seal. The entire hall held its breath, while my father looked for the first time as if it was not his family waiting for my arrival, but his past…

I broke the wax seal. There was only one sheet of paper in the folder, but the heading on it drained the color from Brandon’s face.

“What is this?” he asked.

“Don’t read it aloud yet,” the captain told me.

My father stepped forward.

“Olivia, give me that.”

“I can’t give it to you.”

“I am your father.”

“That changes nothing today.”

The admiral called the security officers. Two men stood at the door. The guests were secretly filming with their phones, while Diana came to me and said quietly:

“If you stop now, everything can still be fixed.”

“What would you fix? The fact that for years you told everyone I was mentally unstable?”

Her lips froze.

The captain took a second sheet of paper from the folder.

“The record was received from the state archive,” he said. “But the main evidence is not here.”

“Then where is it?” I asked.

The admiral looked at my father.

“In the room where your family’s greatest secret was being kept this evening.”

At that moment, the sound of breaking glass came from far away. Everyone turned around. The head of security put a hand to his ear and turned pale.

“The basement archive has been opened,” he said. “Someone disabled the alarm…”

!!!  Ich sollte sieben Tage lang seine große Liebe spielen, doch beim ersten Familienessen verschwand plötzlich jedes Lächeln aus seinem Gesicht

The head of security’s words were still circling in the hall when the admiral raised her hand and stopped every voice.

“We are going down to the basement,” she said.

“This is private property,” my father objected.

“A building that was saved with military assistance and is now the subject of a state investigation,” Morgan replied. “Open the door.”

The basement stairs were cold and damp at nine in the evening. Old water stains could be seen on the walls. The security officer went ahead, holding a heavy flashlight. I followed behind him, clutching the copper compass in my fist.

We found the archive door open. Metal cabinets had been thrown over, and the smell of burned papers stood on the floor. In one corner, a small camera was blinking.

“It was not erased,” Captain Lewis said. “It was going directly to the backup recording.”

The image came on the screen. My father appeared in the recording. The time display was from two days earlier. Brandon and the financial adviser Martin Cole stood in front of him.

“The money must be transferred from the fund’s accounts this week,” Cole was saying. “But the military audit will reveal everything.”

“There will be no audit,” my father replied. “Olivia will sign.”

Something caught in my throat.

In the recording, Brandon asked:

“What if she refuses?”

My father sneered.

“Then we will tell everyone that she has difficulty perceiving reality after the trauma. People will believe it.”

Diana covered the screen with her hand, but it was already too late. Her face collapsed.

“This is impossible,” she whispered.

“You were there,” I told her.

“I did not know what they were doing.”

The recording continued. Cole placed a document on the table.

“A forged signature will be enough for the fund’s military grant to be transferred to your company.”

My father signed. Then he turned toward the camera and said:

!!!  I Was a Billionaire and Was Testing a Child in My Own House, but His Unexpected Gesture Took the Breath Away from Security

“My daughter will sign, even if we need coercion for that.”

When we returned to the hall, my father no longer said a word. The admiral took the final document from the folder.

“This is the examination of your genuine signature, Commander,” she told me. “You did not sign a single page.”

For the first time, my father lowered his gaze.

“Olivia, listen to me,” he said. “I can explain this.”

“No, Father. This time you have to listen.”

Captain Lewis took out his phone.

“Admiral, another message has arrived. The military investigation has discovered that more than just the fund’s money was involved in this scheme.”

“What else?” I asked.

Lewis looked at the screen and fell silent.

Then he turned toward me.

“Commander, an account hidden in your name has been discovered. And your father is named as its owner…”
