My Husband Pulled the Blanket Off Me and Called Me a Liar, but the Blood on My Legs Made His Blood Freeze and His Mother’s Smile Disappear

My husband pulled the hospital blanket off me and mockingly told me that I was pretending to be weak, until he saw the bruises on my legs and the color drained from his face.

“Stop this performance, Lily,” Ethan chuckled and dropped the blanket onto the floor. “My mother says you are trying to take the baby away.”

I lay motionless on the bed. My stomach was heavy, and my body hurt as if each bone had been separately broken. Dark purple marks stretched from my knees to my ankles. The small hospital bracelet on my arm dug into my skin and reminded me with every movement that my child was supposed to be born in just two hours.

“Please… don’t let them take my baby away,” I barely whispered.

Ethan grabbed me by the wrist.

“Who did this to you?”

For the first time, I heard fear in his voice. Not anger. Not coldness. Fear.

The sound of a woman’s heels came from behind the door. Even, calm, confident. Diana Harrow entered in a cream-colored suit, holding a silver folder in her hand. Behind her stood Marcus, Ethan’s cousin and the family’s lawyer. He wore black leather gloves on his fingers, even though the room was warm.

Diana glanced at my legs and slightly raised the corner of her lips.

“Dramatizing again, Lily?” she asked me. “Are you deceiving everyone until the baby is born?”

“Mother,” Ethan said roughly, “what is this?”

Marcus placed the folder on the bedside table.

“Everything has been prepared legally. Temporary guardianship consent, medical authorization, and a request for a psychiatric evaluation.”

My fingers clutched the edge of the blanket. The nurse had brought this blanket to me a few minutes earlier. Small moons were embroidered on the white fabric, and in one corner there was a separate crescent moon made with silver thread. My mother had sewn such a blanket for the baby, but now I was using it to cover my own body.

“I’ll sign when my lawyer arrives,” I said.

Diana lowered her head.

“Your lawyer? He probably exists in your imagination too.”

Then I remembered the morning scene. How Diana had stood beside my bed. How the sharp aroma of expensive perfume had choked the room. How she had told me that I was mentally unstable and that my child would go with them.

“Sign it,” Marcus told me.

“No.”

“Then we will request emergency guardianship.”

Two nurses pressed down on my arms. The bed rattled. My knees struck the metal frame several times. I nearly lost consciousness from the pain, but just then I saw the tiniest black dot set into the ventilation grille in the ceiling.

My camera.

I had installed it months earlier. In every room where I could legally make a recording. Because before the Harrows turned me into a silent wife, I had been a financial investigator for the state prosecutor’s office. I knew how crime hid behind the walls of a wealthy family.

Ethan turned toward his mother.

“Who touched my wife?”

Diana’s smile did not disappear.

“Save your child from her crazy games first.”

I looked toward the door. A small red light was blinking in the ventilation grille.

Marcus reached toward the folder and said quietly:

“It’s too late now, Lily. Whether you sign or not, the baby will go with us anyway.”

But I looked at his hand, because I knew that within a few seconds someone would enter this room whom they expected least…

Marcus’s fingers touched the folder’s clasp, but at that very moment the door opened and my former colleague, Nino, entered the room.

“Lily, everything is ready,” she said and raised a small device in her hand.

Diana turned pale.

“Who let this woman in?”

“I did,” Ethan said.

Nino looked at him.

“Do you still think your family is telling you the truth?”

A woman’s voice came from the device. Diana’s voice.

“The baby will go with us. And Lily will end up in a treatment facility.”

Silence fell over the room.

Marcus took a step forward, but Nino raised the phone.

“One more step and the recording will go simultaneously to the investigator, the court, and the hospital director.”

Ethan turned toward me.

“When was this recorded?”

“That morning when you told me I was too emotional to raise a child,” I answered.

Diana lost her composure for the first time.

“You are sick.”

“No,” I said. “I simply no longer believe you.”

Nino opened the folder and took out a folded sheet of paper.

“There is one more thing here. Lily, you had better read it yourself.”

My signature was visible at the top of the sheet. But I had never signed it.

Ethan looked at the sheet, then at Marcus.

“How did this signature end up here?”

Marcus could not say a word.

And just then my phone rang. On the screen appeared a number that had belonged to my father, who had died six months earlier…

The phone kept ringing. Only its sharp sound could be heard in the room until I touched the screen.

“Don’t answer,” Diana said quickly.

Her reaction changed everything.

“Why?” Ethan asked sternly. “What do you know about this number?”

The call ended. A second later, a message arrived. Nino took the phone from me and read the text on the screen aloud: “Your father knew whom you trusted. Look for folder seven in the lower archive.”

Marcus’s jaw tightened.

“This is nonsense.”

“Then why are you trembling?” I asked.

Nino opened her bag and took out a small memory device. Its surface was scratched, as if someone had dug it out of the ground.

“I found this in the hospital’s underground archive last night,” she said. “It was registered in your father’s name.”

I connected the device to the laptop. First dates appeared on the screen, then bank transfers. For years, money had been transferred from the account of the Harrows’ charitable foundation to foreign accounts. Among the recipients were Marcus’s law firm and Diana’s personal foundation.

Ethan stared at the screen.

“Mother… is that your signature?”

Diana stepped back.

“Everything was done for charity.”

“Then why was the money going into your personal account?” I asked.

Marcus tried to close the computer, but Nino grabbed his hand.

“Don’t touch it.”

I opened the second file. There was a video from the room where they had forced me a few hours earlier. Diana stood beside the bed, Marcus was making me sign, and two nurses were holding me down.

!!!  Part 4 — My servant made my disabled daughter stand, but one question of hers silenced every voice in the room

Diana’s calm voice could be heard in the video:

“If she resists, after the baby is born we will say that she inflicted the injuries on herself.”

Ethan covered his face with his hand.

“God…”

For the first time, genuine fear appeared in Diana’s eyes.

“Ethan, listen to me. This woman is turning us against you.”

“No,” he said in a hoarse voice. “You hid everything from me yourselves.”

The door opened and two investigators entered. Behind them stood the hospital director.

“Mrs. Harrow,” one investigator said, “based on these recordings, you are under temporary arrest.”

Diana looked at Marcus. Marcus looked toward me, and he shot me such a look that I understood: this was not over yet.

At that very moment, a new message arrived on Nino’s phone. She read it, turned pale, and looked at me.

“Lily… your father did not die on the day we all thought. He is alive, and now he is looking for your child…”
