My daughter hid the humiliation in her husband’s house, but when I made one call, his mother stopped smiling for the first time

At the moment when my daughter fell to the floor and her husband’s mother raised her hand for the second time, I was standing by the door and looking for the glasses I had left at home.

I thought the glasses were on the small cabinet in the hallway. That was precisely why I had returned. I was still holding the car keys, and on the hook, the small copper key-shaped object left by my husband was quietly striking against it.

A heavy smell hung in the house — expensive perfume, heated wooden flooring, and fear.

“A useless woman like this does not deserve my son!” Irina Shevchuk roared.

Her hand cut through the air and landed loudly on Natalia’s cheek.

Natalia was sitting on the floor. One hand was pressed to her face, while with the other she clutched the hem of her dress as if the fabric could save her.

Maksim was sitting on the sofa and looking through his phone.

“Mother is right,” he said calmly. “You ruin everything, Natasha. You should at least be grateful that they allow you to live in this house.”

Blood exploded in my temples. I took one step inside, but immediately stopped.

At the sight of me, Natalia would not stand against them. She would protect him again.

That was how my daughter was. Since childhood, she had taken everyone’s pain upon herself.

“Forgive me, Mom,” she once told me in the kitchen when I noticed a bruise on her arm. “I bumped into the cabinet.”

I told her that I believed her.

I had not believed her.

Now, if I went in and made a scene, they would turn Natalia against me. So I went back out. I closed the door silently and went down into the yard.

It was six in the evening. A cold wind shook the trees, while the copper key pendant on my keyring pricked my palm.

At the gate, I dialed the number I called only when there was no return.

“Mr. Savchuk,” I said as soon as he answered. “Begin.”

Silence descended on the other side.

“Are you sure, Mrs. Elena?”

“Completely.”

“Then we are suspending all active contracts. We are beginning immediate collection of the debt and sending notices to the banks about suspicious corporate documents.”

!!!  Part 4 — My Father Promised to Humiliate Me at the Military Gala, but When They Announced My Name in the Hall, the Smile Disappeared from His Face

“Everything at once,” I answered. “Without exception.”

The Shevchuks did not know that the company with whose help they paid their employees’ salaries stood on orders from my group of enterprises.

They thought I was a poor widow whose husband had left a small auto repair shop.

That was true. Only incomplete.

We started with two bays. Then the workshop became a factory, and the factories became enterprises scattered across the whole country. And I still walked around in a simple coat and told everyone that Natalia would not marry for my money.

In recent months, bruises had appeared on her hands. I quietly instructed Savchuk to examine Maksim’s financial affairs.

A company registered using Natalia’s details was discovered. Loans, transfers made in her name, and large sums sent to Maksim’s personal accounts were discovered.

Several days ago Natalia came to me. She did not take off her coat. She handed me a small memory device.

“Mom, keep it. My electronic signature and tax documents are here. I am afraid to leave it at home.”

I took the device and asked nothing.

Now it lay in my office, together with the bank statements.

The Shevchuk family was not only stealing money from me. They were preparing Natalia for a crime.

And then my phone rang again. Maksim’s name lit up on the screen. I answered the call, and on the other side his voice asked me a question for which I was already prepared…

“Elena Petrovna, Natalia has a fever,” Maksim told me in a soft voice. “She is overly sensitive and probably got tired.”

Several hours earlier, I had seen with my own eyes what had caused her trembling.

“Call a doctor,” I answered.

“Of course. By the way, did she leave a small device with you? The one where the electronic signature and tax files are?”

I clasped the copper key pendant in my fingers so that anger would not enter my voice.

“Why do you need it?”

“I am simply finishing the work. Natalia is losing everything.”

“I will check.”

The call ended immediately.

I opened the drawer. Beside the device lay Savchuk’s statements. Now everything was clear: Maksim wanted to sign in Natalia’s name and create new debt.

!!!  The Mafia Boss Took My Quiet Smile as an Insult, but When He Entered the Room, His Face Suddenly Turned to Stone

At midnight a message arrived.

“Mom, shall we meet tomorrow? I found something in Maksim’s office. I am very afraid.”

I immediately wrote: “Do not open the door until morning and do not go anywhere alone.”

But in reply a call came from an unknown number.

“If you want to see your daughter alive and unharmed, come to the old warehouse in the morning,” a man’s voice said. “And bring the device with you…”

The call ended, but for several seconds I continued holding the phone to my ear. The old warehouse stood in our industrial district, with an iron roof and broken windows. Going there seemed like a trap.

But fear controls you only when you leave the person you love alone.

At seven in the morning I arrived there with Savchuk. We found Natalia in the back room. Her hands were tied to the back of a chair with rope, although there was no fresh wound on her face.

“Mom!” she called.

I ran toward her, but Savchuk caught my arm.

“Not yet. There is a camera there.”

Maksim came out from behind the iron door. Irina followed him. Irina was holding a black folder.

“Did you bring the device?” Maksim asked me.

“First let my daughter go.”

“First prove to me that you have everything there.”

Natalia whispered through tears:

“Mom, do not give it to him. I found copies in the office. My signature has been forged. They wanted to take out loans in my name.”

Irina looked at her with disgust.

“Your daughter is mentally unstable. She did all of this herself.”

Savchuk took the folder, but exactly then the sound of police cars was heard.

Maksim turned pale.

“Why did you bring the police?”

“I did not,” I said. “Natalia herself called last night, before you took her phone away.”

Savchuk opened the folder. Inside were loan agreements, transfer statements, and records of the use of Natalia’s electronic signature.

“Did you do all this?” I asked Maksim.

“I was helping the family!”

“Then why was the money transferred to your account?”

He could not find an answer.

Savchuk turned on the tablet and played a recording. Maksim’s voice, recorded several weeks earlier, sounded in the room:

!!!  Twenty Minutes After My Son’s Funeral, I Saw My Husband with His Lover, but When He Looked at Me Through the Camera, His Face Suddenly Changed

“If Natalia does not sign, we will frighten her mother. In the end they will blame her anyway.”

The color disappeared from Irina’s face.

Natalia lowered her head, as if she had finally understood that the person she had trusted for years was planning her destruction.

“That is your voice,” I told Maksim.

“The recording is forged!”

“Then an examination will be waiting for you.”

The police officers entered the room. I untied Natalia’s rope and held her to my heart. Her body was trembling.

I thought everything was over.

But at that very moment Savchuk’s phone rang. He looked at the screen and his brows drew together.

“Mrs. Elena, it is from the bank. They received a new document that was sent an hour ago.”

“What document?”

Savchuk lowered his voice:

“A guarantee issued with your signature. If it is genuine, the property of your entire group may be seized…”
