They Found My Daughter and Her Newborn Locked in a Car, but When My Son-in-Law Denied Everything, the Neighbor’s Face Suddenly Changed

Returning from the pharmacy, I first saw the baby’s tiny hand on the car’s rear window, and then my bags fell onto the asphalt. The car stood crookedly in the yard, under the scorching midday sun. The engine was off. All the windows were locked.

“Emily!” I shouted and ran toward the car.

My daughter was sitting bent over the steering wheel. Her face was covered in sweat, her lips were dry, and her eyes were only half-open. On the back seat, three-week-old Grace was strapped into her seat. The baby was almost no longer crying. She only moved her fingers weakly.

I pulled at the door handle.

It was locked.

“Mom…” Emily’s voice was barely audible.

She reached toward the lock button, but her arm fell halfway there. I felt coldness in my heart, although the air was so hot that even breathing was difficult.

I rushed into the garage and took a rescue hammer from my deceased husband’s toolbox. Its wooden handle still smelled of varnish and motor oil. With all my strength, I struck the rear window.

The glass shattered.

I took Grace out first. Her body was frighteningly hot. The neighbor, Mrs. Alvarez, rushed into the yard with me and brought a small bottle of water to the baby’s mouth.

“Don’t give her anything to drink, just cool her!” I told her in a trembling voice.

Then we pulled Emily out from behind the wheel. She collapsed into my arms.

“Who did this to you?” I asked.

Her lips barely moved.

“Brandon… and Nicole…”

Then she lost consciousness.

The ambulance arrived within several minutes. The doctors took Grace away immediately, while they put an oxygen mask on Emily. Just then, a silver car stopped across the street. Brandon got out wearing an expensive blue shirt and sunglasses. Nicole stood beside him, the woman whose messages Emily had seen on Brandon’s phone several weeks earlier.

Brandon looked at the shattered glass and sighed.

“What has she done now?”

“Your wife and child almost died!” I shouted at him.

He did not even look at the baby.

“Emily is confused after giving birth,” he told the police officer. “She probably locked herself in the car.”

Nicole began looking at the ground.

I looked inside the car and then noticed: Emily’s phone was gone, the baby bag was lying in an inaccessible place, the seat had been pushed too far back, and an empty bottle stood in the cup holder. The key fob was missing too.

!!!  Mi hija imitaba al dueño de la mansión hasta que un gesto diminuto hizo que su rostro perdiera todo color

“She did not do this herself,” I told the officer.

Brandon smiled at me coldly.

“You weren’t here, Margaret.”

“No. But someone was.”

Mrs. Alvarez said that she had seen Brandon’s car in my yard less than an hour earlier. Nicole had been standing beside Emily’s car while someone was leaning inside through the driver’s window.

Brandon’s smile froze on his face.

At the hospital, the doctors told us that Grace had been only minutes away from a critical condition. Emily was dehydrated and confused. When Brandon tried to stop them from drawing her blood, I stepped in front of the bed.

“You will not speak for her anymore.”

He whispered in my ear:

“Be careful. Emily needs me. Without me she will have neither a house nor money nor a chance of keeping the baby.”

I did not answer anything. I only put my hand into my bag and touched the small brass key to my husband’s office. Years earlier, he had installed cameras in the yard. Brandon had removed the camera at the entrance, but he did not know about the second camera, hidden inside the garage light.

The recording was stored on a locked computer.

That evening, the detective came home with me. Brandon and Nicole also followed with a lawyer and insisted that they had the right to see everything. I opened the office door. The computer screen slowly lit up. The detective entered the time indicated by Mrs. Alvarez.

The recording began. On the screen, someone’s hand appeared beside the car, and Brandon immediately stepped forward. The detective turned up the volume, and I saw Brandon’s fingers move toward the folder containing the other evidence from that entire day…

The detective grabbed Brandon’s arm.

“Step back.”

“This is my family’s business,” Brandon said angrily.

“No, this is now a possible crime,” he replied.

The sound on the screen was clear. Nicole was closing the car door, and Brandon was telling her:

“Everything must be finished before they return in the evening.”

Nicole asked quietly:

“What if the baby doesn’t survive?”

The air in the room froze. Brandon immediately demanded that the image be turned off.

“The recording has been edited!”

“Then why are you afraid of it?” I asked.

At that moment, Emily’s doctor called me. He told me that when my daughter regained consciousness, she repeated one thing: “Don’t believe the lies, Mom. Look for the phone.”

!!!  4. RÉSZ — Négy évig spóroltam az otthonomra, de apám egyetlen mozdulattal az utcára lökött — aztán elsápadt

The detective looked at Brandon.

“Where is her phone?”

“I don’t know.”

Nicole lost color.

Brandon walked toward the door, but the police officer blocked his way. I opened the drawer of my husband’s desk and saw a small memory card inside. Emily’s name was written on it. Only one word could be seen on the recording: “Final.”

The detective took the card, inserted it into the computer, and watched the screen. After several seconds, Brandon’s phone rang. He did not answer.

The call came again.

This time, an unfamiliar number appeared on the screen and a message arrived: “If you tell your mother everything, both you and the baby are lost…”

During the third call, no one in the room was breathing. Brandon stood against the wall, while Nicole gripped the arm of the chair so tightly that her fingernails turned white.

“Put it on speaker,” the detective told me.

Brandon did not move the phone.

“I know nothing about this message.”

“Then answer it,” I said.

He looked at me. For the first time that day, I saw not irritation in his eyes, but fear. The detective took his phone and answered the call.

“Am I speaking with Brandon?” an unfamiliar man asked.

Brandon remained silent.

“You already have your answer,” the voice continued. “The evidence is in her mother’s hands. Now only the appearance of the second copy is needed.”

The detective ended the call immediately.

“Who was that?” he asked.

“I don’t know,” Brandon said.

Just then, the recording on the memory card opened. First, Emily’s room appeared, with a date from two days earlier. My daughter was sitting on the bed and speaking in front of the camera. Her voice was tired, but the words could be heard clearly.

“Mom, if you are watching this, Brandon has already found out that I discovered everything. His relationship with Nicole is not just infidelity. He took out loans in my name, forged my signature, and tried to sell the house before Grace’s birth.”

Nicole exhaled loudly.

“That’s impossible.”

In the recording, Emily placed documents on the table.

“The bank employee told me that my signature on the loan documents does not match. Brandon wanted to sell the house, leave the debt to me, and demand custody of the child together with Nicole. Today he told me that if I spoke up, he would make everyone believe that I was no longer sane after giving birth.”

!!!  My Pregnant Wife Was Made to Kneel on the Floor by My Mother, but After I Ran Away, the Smile Disappeared from Her Face for the First Time

I walked up to the screen. My fingers were trembling.

“Emily, why didn’t you tell me?”

Her recording continued.

“Because he was afraid he would hurt you too, Mom. But I left one more confirming thing in the house. Brandon does not know that his own voice was recorded on the phone.”

The detective immediately looked at Brandon.

“Where is your phone?”

Brandon ran toward the door, but the police officer grabbed him by the elbow.

“Let me go! This is illegal!”

Nicole began to cry.

“You told me everything was under control.”

“Shut up!” Brandon shouted at her.

At that moment, it became clear to everyone that the recording was genuine. But the main question still remained: who was the unfamiliar man speaking to on Brandon’s phone, and where was the second copy?

The detective took another sheet of paper from my husband’s office desk. The hospital’s address and a time were written on it.

“Margaret, this was planned for this evening,” he said.

“What?”

He handed me the paper. At the bottom it said: “Taking the baby — nine o’clock.”

And in the hospital corridor, at that very moment, an unfamiliar man was walking toward Emily’s room…
